Not if it falls short. From 25 November 2025 a rental must meet every standard before it is advertised or offered for lease, not just by the day the renter moves in. The standards apply to agreements made from 29 March 2021, and to earlier ones once they rolled over to periodic after that date.
It does not certify electrical safety, and it does not replace the two-yearly gas and electrical safety checks or the yearly smoke alarm check, which belong to a licensed electrician or gasfitter. Heaters, cooktops, ovens and other appliances are recorded as present, never operated or tested. We do not test for asbestos, identify mould species, inspect for timber pests or open up walls and floors, and rooming houses have separate standards. Any part of the home we could not get into on the day is named in the report.
